Made By You...
When @madelabel_ got in touch last week and asked me to pattern test their #bellewrapskirt I thought it was great timing as it is exactly a year to the week that I bought a sewing machine, and made my very first piece of clothing- @madelabel_ free #frankiewrapskirt. My first sewing anniversary. ❤🎈 I loved everything about this pattern, from their focus on making a sustainable piece that would stand wear and tear, to all the beautiful details such as the buttons, the mitred hem, the stitch in a ditch sewing and the French seams. Overall I think it has resulted in the most professional looking garment I've created so far. ❣

I finally decided I wanted to make a skirt that I could wear spring through to autumn, with or without tights. I also wanted to make sure it was either adjustable or easily altered to fit my fluctuating body shape for maximum wearability. This pattern fitted the bill so I took the plunge and it's one of my favourite makes so far. I made a size 14 and I added a little elastic into the back waistband to ensure a little give - but also because I kept sewing the buttons just slightly too loose somehow! It's all french seamed as per the instructions and it's really simple to make up, particularly as there's a really good accompanying video.

I went for a linen from @helloheidifabrics mum’s is an Attelier Brunette viscose. I had to re-sew the buttons three times to get the fit right but it is worth it. And a wonderful excuse to take photos of me and my lovely mum who is teaching me to sew! In the final photo I swear it’s my index finger!

I am obsessed with midi skirts, and I love the simple lines of this one. It's very simple and so easy to either dress up or down. The pattern is also well-drafted and comes together quite quickly. There are written instructions, as well as a YouTube video tutorial. The narrator has the most soothing voice and will make you feel so zen while you sew 😂 The wrap skirt ties at the true waist, but also has either 4 or 5 buttons to help prevent 'wardrobe malfunctions' on a breezy day 😂 I used some sort of mid-weight blend fabric that I got in a shared #fabricdestash with @makeitchelle . It was too heavy to use the recommended french seams, so I just serged the raw edges and called it a day. I made a straight size 12 based on my measurements. The only change I made (other than omitting the French seams) was to add pockets. Because, duh 🙄

And the green just helped break up the sewing men. 😂 the buttons are vintage buttons given to me by some little old lady who stopped sewing. The top is the #TudorBlouse from @stitchwitchpatternsThe skirt is the #BelleWrap from @madelabel_ which I added pocket too. Because. Pockets.

After spending some time fabric shopping in Berkeley, I got stuck there bc the traffic was terrible coming back to SF. So, as one does, I found a wall of flowers in the neighborhood and took some selfies out the side of my car to kill the time! I wish I had a pic of the setup of my phone hanging out of the car bc it was not as cute as this pic turned out. 🌼✨🌼✨

I really like the button placket as it adds that little something extra. Only thing to keep in mind is that you won’t be able to loosen the skirt during the day, which is why mine is a bit loose (so I can eat properly 😅). Paired here with my new @truebias #nikkotop (details in previous post) Fabric: Atelier Brunette Lucie Cedar viscose from @ansjehandmade. Buttons: Cedar mat buttons, also from @atelierbrunette Pattern: @madelabel_ #bellewrapskirt Size: 8, with an added 1 cm to side seams because I should have sized up
