Each one of our sewing projects has a sew-along video tutorial that will show you exactly what you need to do. If you are still finding your confidence with this sewing world then we say grab a cuppa and watch the entire tutorial first so you know exactly what you are going to be doing and can practice anything that looks a bit tricky first! Body Copy Link Sewing a sample with a second-hand sheet allows you to cheaply practice your project before you cut into your material and without the fear you are going to mess it up. Make sure you practice all the tricky parts on the sample and if you don’t quite feel like you mastered them… Just practice that one skill again. It will also give you an indication if you have selected the right size. More on that here.
01. CHOOSE THE RIGHT FABRIC Our patterns work best with woven, non-stretch fabric with a nice drape – we always suggest Rayon or Viscose as it is soft to the touch and is also biodegradable which is a bonus.
02. DON’T SHY AWAY FROM THE RISK We have seen a fair bit of information around that says this is a hard fabric to sew with but if you take your time and pin all your seams it’s actually not that tricky.
- 03. CHOOSE THE RIGHT WEIGHT The worst thing you can do is use a heavy (easy to sew) fabric on a pattern that is for a light, floating dress as even if you get every seam and hem perfect the final dress will be disappointing as it won’t drape as intended.
- Sewing is more than just mastering the machine. Take your time with the cutting, press every seam (before and after) you can never press a garment too much while sewing & pin everything before you head to the machine and you will be amazed in the difference.
